Lexus IS-F by Five Axis Presented At Los Angeles Auto Show

IS-F FiveAxis-01

Founded in 1995, Five Axis, came from Troy Sumitomo’s passion for precision and quality which is clearly reflected in each of Five Axis’ show cars, concepts, and designs. The team at Five Axis has been designing and building cars for automotive manufacturers and design studios for quite some time, but what really caught our eye is the Lexus IS-F they have designed for the L.A. Auto Show.

The California based tuner did a great job, the car looks amazing. The IS-F has a six-inch custom body-kit, Satin Black Pearl Paint and Satin Bronze accents and it sits on FiveAxis’ own custom 20-inch wheels (20×8.5 in front and 20×10.5 out back), swathed in the same bronze hue as the ducting.

Everything they built and designed for the car looks perfect, and the details are great. The exhaust, the diffuser, they even took out the door handles in the rear and replaced the ones in the front. The lowered ride height provided by the Tein adjustable coilovers brings it all down to earth, literally.

By the way, did you notice that it has no side-mirrors? Could it be because it’s so powerful that you don’t need them? Well, the IS-F performance is aided by a custom exhaust system and what FiveAxis is calling a “Stage 2″ engine package. We are not very sure what that means in terms of horsepower, but judging from what they did on the exterior of the IS-F I’m sure it matches the overall aggressive look.. Slowing those undefined extra horses is a set of Brembos at all four corners: 380 mm discs with six-piston calipers up front and 345 mm plates grabbed by two-piston calipers in the rear.

From conceptual design, to manufacturing, to final product, Five Axis handles all their work under one roof. Troy Sumitomo graduated from the esteemed Art Center of Design with a BS in Automotive Design back in ’92 and hasn’t looked back.

Learning the ropes at other fabrication companies, Troy eventually struck out on his own and started Five Axis in 1995. The name Five Axis derived from an actual computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system. These 3D, five sided, computer programmable machines are setting the standard in the engineering field and is the weapon of choice for Troy and his company. Starting in a quaint 800 sq/ft locale in Santa Ana, Five Axis has grown into a 22,000 sq/ft metropolis in Huntington Beach, CA. From concept cars to one-off custom parts, if you can dream it, Five Axis can bring it to reality.
